WHERE DO I START?
It is important to understand that earthing, bonding and lightning protection equipment or solutions are usually part of a larger safety, maintenance or control plan.
FIRST QUESTION TO ASK? HAZARDOUS OR NON-HAZARDOUS CLASSIFIED AREA. ARE YOU WORKING IN A ZONE 0,1,2,20,21 or 22?
Important: IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF WHETHER OR NOT YOUR APPLICATION OCCURS IN OR NEAR A HAZARDOUS AREA ZONE 0/1 or 2 or ZONE 20/21 or 22 then either call us directly so that we may assist you with an initial assessment or contact a hazardous area specialist.
In a hazardous area it is very seldom that an electrostatic hazard can be treated by itself. Precautions against lightning hazards should be in addition to other precautions, for example but not limited to; explosion protection, intrinsically safe electrical equipment or lightning protection. They should also be consistent with precautions taken to avoid other hazards that may be present, such as ignitions due to other causes. It is important that all sources of risk in a system of work are considered and that a balanced approach to safety that covers all risks is adopted.
We strongly recommend that you do not conduct testing or install earthing, bonding, lightning protection equipment in or near a hazardous area zone 0/1 or 2 or zone 20/21 or 22 without first considering the requirements of the zone and how the equipment applies to those requirements and or the appropriate Australian/New Zealand regulations, standards or codes of practice.
SECOND QUESTION TO ASK? HAVE YOU READ AND UNDERSTOOD THE RELEVANT AUSTRALIAN/NEW ZEALAND AND OR INTERNATIONAL STANDARD SPECIFIC TO EARTHING, BONDING AND OR LIGHTNING PROTECTION.
Important: IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF WHAT STANDARD APPLIES TO YOUR SPECIFIC PROJECT then either call us directly so that we may assist you with an initial assessment or contact/visit the SAI GLOBAL/ Standards Australia website..
THIRD QUESTION TO ASK? SITE AUDIT, SITE SURVEY, SITE TEST OR SITE REPORT
Important: IF YOU ARE UNCERTAIN OF HOW TO PROCEED AFTER ESTABLISHING WHETHER YOU ARE OR ARE NOT WORKING OR PLANNING TO WORK WITHIN IN A HAZARDOUS OR NON HAZARDOUS CLASSIFIED AREA AND HAVE READ THROUGH AND UNDERSTOOD YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES IN RELATION TO THE RELEVANT AUSTRALIAN/NEW ZEALAND AND OR INTERNATIONAL STANDARD SPECIFIC TO EARTHING, BONDING AND OR LIGHTNING PROTECTION then call us directly so that we may assist you with an initial assessment.
Site surveys, audits, tests and reports are important in gathering information so as to provide the most appropriate specification and design for your project. It is critical that the correct information forms the basis of the overall solution or you risk incorrect specification or design leading to additional costs, non-compliance and potential safety risk.
